LYS is a miniature architectural gesture, speaking the same language as contemporary facades: those that use beams and brise-soleil to shape space with light and shadows, turning irregular light into a compositional motif. Parema’s new companionway retains its historical functionality – the vertical sliding that frees the sides for furniture or storage – but theformal reinterpretations introduced by HubZeta redefine its identity. The slats vary in size, creating a dynamic bevel between the vertical and horizontal parts.
When unique expertise unites under one vision, the result is nothing short of extraordinary. From the shared vision of Parema and HubZeta comes Lys: a companionway that is not only a functional element, but a refined piece of nautical micro-architecture where design, light, and material seamlessly unite.
The companionway, originally perceived as a simple, closed, introverted shutter, opens up, evolves, and changes skin. The slats become transparent, the space opens to the light. Lys builds a visual and symbolic bridge between the cockpit and the below-deck environments, contributing to a smoother, more open, and brighter onboard experience.
Its design evolves almost spontaneously, reverse-engineered afterwards, becoming an object able to break the clear boundaries between inside and outside, between function and form, between light and opacity. Lys elevates the aesthetics of cockpit furnishings, naturally matching the sharp geometries of contemporary fiberglass and adding character and refinement even to standard equipment.
The sliding guides have been optimized by Parema to ensure smoothness and watertightness. The balance between aluminum and acrylic materials enables a lighter and visually integrated structure.
This new-generation sliding system is designed to integrate seamlessly into marine environments, ensuring maximum reliability, smooth operation, and resistance to marine
conditions.
The horizontal slats, made from top-quality materials with specific UV- and salt-resistant treatments, allow calibrated light transmission without compromising privacy or safety.
The shutter consists of a series of horizontal slats connected by a male-female system that allows smooth and articulated movement. Each slat is made of an elongated
sheet of transparent or translucent material (glass, polycarbonate, or PMMA) that allows light to pass through even when the shutter is closed. The sheet is embedded and fixed between two
anti-corrosion alloy profiles (preferably aluminum), integrating the connectors for attachment between adjacent slats.
The system is available both in a sliding version with side rails and in a roll-up version, with the option of adding pins and bushings to facilitate sliding. Its modular approach makes it
possible to adapt the shutter to different geometries and opening sizes, without strict tolerance constraints, while ensuring mechanical strength, watertightness, and durability in harsh
environments such as marine and vehicle industries.
